Business Creativity

Despite all of the attention that business creativity had over the past few years, very little is known about day-to-day innovation in the workplace. Where do breakthrough ideas come from? What kind of work environment allows them to flourish? What can leaders do to sustain the stimulants to creativity -- and break through the barriers?

Participants will learn many practical tools in an interactive workshop style sessions based on adult learning principles:

  • How the brain works
  • Definitions & common myths: What is creativity? What is innovation? What is the difference and how are these two linked in business?
  • Barriers and enablers to business creativity
  • Focus - How to find the root causes for problems
  • Creative solutions - using and applying specific and powerful creative thinking techniques
  • Prioritisation - techniques to select the most interesting ideas to develop further
  • Implementation - develop a detailed plan for implementation within the business context

The Business Creativity course takes place over 2 - 5 days.

Creativity should be a core competency for leaders and managers and one of the best ways to set your company apart from the competition. Creativity in business is characterised by the ability to perceive the world in new ways, to find hidden patterns, to make connections between seemingly unrelated objects or ideas, and to generate solutions.

Generating fresh solutions to problems, and the ability to create new products, processes or services for a changing market, are part of the intellectual capital that give a company its competitive edge.

Six Thinking Hats®
Six Hats

Six Thinking Hats® is a proven method to effectively change the way your team thinks and communicates. By applying this simple technique, you can:

  • Generate faster, better and more effective decisions
  • Reduce time spent in meetings by focusing thinking and improving the quality of output
  • Improve teamwork by fostering the involvement of everyone in the decision
  • Overcome diversity in meetings where there are strongly held opposing points of view
  • Speed up problem solving by structuring thinking to reach clear, logical and rational conclusions

Six Thinking Hats® training takes place in a 1 or 2 day interactive workshop. During the workshop, participants will learn about different thinking styles and be introduced to parallel thinking.

By utilising a mix of theoretical presentations and practical exercises, participants are taken through each of the Six Thinking Hats® and taught how to effectively realise the value of applying this thinking framework.

Lateral Thinking™

Participants will learn to use and apply the following Lateral Thinking™Techniques:

  • Alternatives: How to use concepts as a breeding ground for new ideas. Sometimes we do not look beyond the obvious alternatives.
  • Focus: When and how to change the focus of your thinking. You will learn the discipline of defining your focus and sticking to it.
  • Challenge: Breaking free from the limits of traditional thinking. With challenges, we act as though the present way of doing things is not necessarily the best.
  • Random Entry: Using unconnected input to open up new lines of thinking.
  • Provocation and Movement: Generating provocative statements and using them to build new ideas.
  • Harvesting: Capturing your creative output. At the end of a creative-thinking session, we normally only take note of the specific ideas that seem practical and have obvious value.
  • Treatment of Ideas: How to develop ideas and shape them to fit an organization or situation
The Lateral Thinking™ course takes place over two days
